Snowmen On A Stick! Great School Party Project!

During the holiday season, kids love to help with all the cooking and baking. While holiday treats are usually not very healthy, there are some easy, fun recipes that can be enjoyed by everyone!! Also, a great activity for a holiday party both in or out of school!

This recipe is sure to become one of your kids’ favorite holiday activity/treat.

Snowman On A Stick

Ingredients:

  • Bananas
  • Grapes
  • Carrot
  • Apple
  • Bamboo skewers
  • Mini chocolate chips
  • Pretzel sticks

Instructions:

  1. You will need three thick slices of bananas, a grape, a sliver of a carrot and a triangular piece of apple for each snowman. (Tip: Use the bamboo skewer to poke a hole in the apple, so it will be easier to assemble.)
  2. Let your kids slide the fruit onto the skewer. Then use the carrot slivers for the noses, the mini chocolate chips for the eyes and buttons, and use the pretzel sticks for the arms.

This is a great activity for your kids and all their friends during the holidays to make a fun, healthy treat!

Chocolate-Hazelnut Meringue Kisses

Chocolate-Hazelnut Meringue Kisses Recipe 

Piping cookies from a pastry bag is a lot of fun, and the work goes quickly. But you can just as easily make these into drop cookies, if you prefer. Just drop them by level tablespoonfuls onto prepared baking sheets.

Yield: 4 dozen (serving size: 4 kisses)

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup finely chopped hazelnuts, toasted
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa
  • 1 ounce bittersweet chocolate, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup sifted powdered sugar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 3 large egg whites
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • Dash of salt
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preparation:

  1. 1. Preheat oven to 325°.
  2. 2. Combine first 3 ingredients in a food processor; process until finely ground. Combine hazelnut mixture, 1/4 cup powdered sugar, and cornstarch in a medium bowl, stirring with a whisk.
  3. 3. Place egg whites, cream of tartar, and salt in a large bowl; beat with a mixer at high speed until soft peaks form. Add granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time, beating at high speed until stiff peaks form. Gently fold hazelnut mixture and vanilla into egg mixture.
  4. 4. Cover two baking sheets with parchment paper. Spoon egg white mixture into a pastry bag fitted with a 1/2-inch round tip. Pipe 48 (1 1/2-inch-round) mounds onto prepared baking sheets. Bake at 325° for 25 minutes or until meringues are done and dry to the touch. (Meringues are done when surface is dry and meringues can be removed from paper without sticking to fingers.) Turn oven off; partially open oven door. Cool meringues in oven 30 minutes. Remove from oven; carefully remove meringues from paper.

Snack O Lanterns…Healthy Halloween Treat!

What you’ll need

  • Navel orange
  • Canned or fresh fruit salad (if you use canned fruit…get it packed in fruit juice, not syrup)

How to make it

  1. To make one lantern, use a small knife to slice the top off a navel orange and cut around its interior to hollow it out. Scoop out the orange segments, chop them, and mix them with canned or fresh fruit salad.
  2. Carve small facial features in one side of the orange, then cut a slit in the lid to accommodate the handle of a green plastic spoon. Fill the lantern with fruit salad. Insert the spoon and set the lid in place.
